Dios Mio, Pio Pio Peruvian Chicken!

I apologize for the radio silence over the past few days.  Rest assured that I am still in fact eating (probably too much), but unfortunately working much more than I had anticipated.  I expect this trend to continue this week, but hopefully it will not be too bad (chopsticks crossed).

Pio Pio has been a place I have been eyeing for as long as I can remember, because I will admit it:

I love rotisserie chicken.

I really do.  I used to crave it a lot in Dallas, so I would buy them from Sam's Club and eat on it for a week.  That was the life!  Since moving to New York, I have not eaten much rotisserie chicken.   I once bought half a rotisserie chicken from Zaytuna, near the office, and I felt like a caveman eating it in my cube; it was not that good either.

So in researching rotisserie chicken in NYC, I discovered the existence of Peruvian chicken, e.g., Peruvian rotisserie chicken.  When you say the word Peruvian in front of rotisserie chicken, it sounds much more exciting and exotic and considerably less lame, especially when it is italicized.

So recently, it was time to finally try out this sucker.  I was suddenly inspired to: order delivery > eat that whole bird  myself in my apartment > have no witnesses to the poultry mayhem that would ensue.  Genius!

My apartment technically falls out of the delivery range listed on their website, but they were kind enough to accept my order.  About ten minutes later, I heard a knock on my door.  I was in disbelief.  The delivery man was already here!  Ten.  Minutes !  It's like they hung up the phone, immediately strapped the full bird onto the delivery man's bike, and he pedaled his heart out to my apartment to make sure I got the chicken while it was fresh and hot.  In moments like these I realize just how much I love New York.

I was so excited to see my bird.
I bet you are too!

Pio Pio's Peruvian chicken.  It smelled amaaaaaazzziiing.

Mmm.  Juicy, marinated chicken skin.

Pio Pio 'green sauce'

Verdict: the chicken had great seasoning, was juicy (even the white meat) and the green sauce was a refreshing accompaniment to the chicken.  I don't think anyone really knows what's in it, but it tasted like mayonnaise + cilantro + habanero peppers; its spiciness sort of compounds with each additional bite.  I ended up eating like half the bird that night, but still had enough leftover for three more meals later in the week!  It's just the meal that keeps on giving !
