Welcome!

Welcome to Handi Eats! Han and I are super excited to share our foodventures. Hopefully the blog will help you find foods you love and foods you never even knew you loved! We'll both be updating from our respective locations, so there should be a great variety of places to try. :)

First up is Taqueria la Monarca in St. Louis, MO. Went there last night, and I just cannot get enough of this place. It's a no-frills kinda place - it's basically 6 little tables attached to a small grocery store. But don't let its appearance fool you - the taqueria is full of wonder and deliciousness.

For example, the chips are always freshly hot and crisp! Always. And can we talk about warm salsa? Warm. Salsa. Awesome. Every other Mexican place will serve you cold chips and salsa, but not the taqueria. Two salsas come with the chips - red and green, and both very... complex. Yum.

The taqueria is famous for its huaraches, pictured here. It's fried masa, topped with refried beans, your choice of marinated meat, cilantro, onion, cheese, and crema. I had these for the first time a few months ago, and I'm in love.

The great thing - among other great things - about the taqueria is that it's a real bargain. Last time I had a jarritos soda, huarache, rice and beans, shared some chips and guac - all for under 10 dollars! Perfect for any poor law student. ;)

And for your wandering eye: a shot of their bbq pork tacos. Just look at that marination.
