M Wells Dinette: Summer Edition

One of the more tempting things to do when you find yourself in Long Island City is to pay a visit to the ever-adorable M Wells Dinette operating out of the PS1. (M Wells is also serving their famous breakfast sandwiches on Sundays at the Long Island City Flea & Food mart, so that's a new option also!)

The summer menu at the Dinette had less breakfast / brunchy items than our last visit in January (with that spectacular foie gras oatmeal), but there are a couple of egg dishes still to be had, which is what I had.

The tortilla espanola is an paprika-dusted egg puck on a plate with a loaf of crusty bread.

Mind you, it is a pretty addictive little egg puck made with soft potato.  The paprika / chili oil combination added fun mouthfeel.

The beef tartare, with poached egg, was light and fresh with pops of mustard seeds.

The oyster bolognese was intriguing - came two oysters to a plate in the halfshell, encrusted with bolognese.

It tasted exactly like it sounded.  The bolognese was thick and slightly sweet, and when you finally manage to dig out that squishy little mollusk wedged under the heap of meat sauce, it kind of worked?  But maybe because I love bolognese and adore oysters.

The zucchini soup was summery, creamy and refreshing.

And then, it's always good to walk off a few of the calories by looking at the graffiti art at Five Points, before they decide to demolish the whole place, though when we went, there were some activists having people sign petitions to save it.  I think this one is worth saving at least - awesome food chain art !

Han's Nonsensical Rating: Personally, I found the summer menu less interesting than the winter menu, but everything we had was still pretty good.  I'd come back again when it cools down, because that oatmeal still haunts me!
